Zoey's 2nd Birthday

Today our little Zoey turns 2 years old! Another year older, another year wiser, another year of love etched into our hearts. Happy Birthday Zoey!

It's hard to believe how much this little munchkin has grown in a year, and how much more I love her each day!

A lot of people ask me how I think Zoey will react with a little brother or sister around. It's true that Zoey is a bit spoiled and is used to pretty much constant attention from Chris and me. I think there might be a little bit of adjusting and potential jealously issues with a baby around. However, Zoey is such a loving and sweet dog, that I really can't help but think that she's going to become completely protective and loving with the baby and totally rock her big sister role. She already loves her big sister t-shirt...just look how happy she is! LOL

Zoey sleeps in the bed with us, and I have no intention of putting that to an end just because we have a child. Zoey will learn to love, embrace, and be gentle with her younger brother or sister and that's just the way it's going to be.

How will your dog(s) be with a little one in the house? Did your dog(s) have any trouble adjusting to bringing home a baby?

    1. Thanks, it took quite a bit of treats to get her to sit still for them, but I'm very happy with how they came out!

  2. Happy Birthday Zoey! I worry about our dog too. He is wild and he is 10 years old. I have heard that dogs sense that the baby is yours. It's the scent the babies give off. I hope thats true!!!!! I'd be heartbroken if my Bogart had an issue with baby.

  4. Happy Birthday, Zoey. The pictures are so cute but I can't quite make out what the second word on her shirt says. She really has grown but you don't notice it until you compare pictures.

  5. Happy Birthday Zoey! Our dog Moxie has been great with Hunter since the moment we brought him home. When I was in the hospital my husband took one of the baby blankets to his parents house where she was staying so she could get used to the smell. She ended up sleeping on it that night (unprompted). SHe's a total mama dog that is always trying to protect him and give him kisses and even now when he will sometimes pull her fur or fall on her she is very patient with him. I think having a female dog helps because they have that maternal instinct.

    1. That's really good to know Shannon..especially because Zoey is a Doxie too! she's a dachshund mix, but the two DNA tests we did on her said she's mostly a dachshund. Can you believe that Dachshunds were deemed the most aggressive dog of 2012 or something crazy like that?! The way you describe Moxie, is how I envision Zoey to be when we have the baby...I hope!

  7. Happy birthday to Zoey! That big sister shirt is too cute! I was just wondering yesterday how our kitties will react when we have a baby someday, since they are spoiled and treated like human children already.

    1. Oh yea..Zoey is def. treated like a human. I'm soooo curious to see how she's going to be. So far, I can't really say that I've noticed a different with her around me...but she's so affectionate with me as it is anyway, it's hard to tell if she really knows or senses anything different.

  8. AW yay! Happy Birthday to Zoey! We have two dogs who have basically been our children up until this point. I know a few things will change in that they'll receive a little less of our attention, but not a single bit less love. We have one dog that I'm sure will adjust right away and another that will probably take some getting used to... One that loves kids and one that doesn't really. But she loves her family and once she realizes baby is part of her family I'm sure she'll love and protect her too! Zoey will be fine with you guys there to help her!
