Product Review: Halo Sleepsack Wearable Blanket

I don't know about you, but the East Coast is having QUITE the winter this year with numerous snow storms and frigid temperatures. Even though I'm really looking forward to Spring, I don't really mind the winter we are having. I have always held the opinion that if it's going to be winter...be winter. I love the look of snow on the ground, and I hate when the temperature hovers just above freezing and stays cold and rainy rather than cold and snowy! I also don't mind hibernating in our house this winter seeing as I have Natalie to snuggle up with on these cold days.

We received a few different types of swaddle blankets at my baby shower. By far, our favorite was the Halo Sleepsack swaddle. Made much like a straight-jacket, it was impossible for Natalie to get out of it, and she always slept very soundly in this swaddle.
She's already grown out of the first swaddle so we are onto the next size; the Fleece Animal Friends Fleece Swaddle has been keeping her warm and swaddled every night. I also wanted something warm that she could wear comfortably during the day. Luckily, HALO Sleep Innovations sent me a Halo Sleepsack wearable blanket in micro-fleece for Natalie to wear on these cold, chilly days! The fleece wearable blanket in ladybug arrived to our front door last week and Natalie was very excited to try it on...well as excited as she could be for a 9 week old!
Since 2005, the American Academy of Pediatrics has suggested the use of wearable blankets. Today, HALO Innovation’s SleepSack products are used by over 1,000 hospitals to promote safe sleep, and by millions of parents nationwide to help babies sleep safely from the start. HALO Innovation's offer a range of SleepSack wearble blankets, from SleepSack Swaddles for newborns to SleepSack Big Kids for toddlers, offering your little one comfort and safety at any age.
Natalie has been spending her days warm and toasty in this wearable blanket. All I need is my own snuggie and we'd be quite the pair! Of course, she looks much cuter in her sleepsack than I will ever look in a snuggie!!

I like that this is very long so she will be able to use this for a long time and get great use out of it. It beats having to constantly wrap her in a blanket. The only thing I've found annoying is that I have to take her out of it if I ever want to buckle her into the bouncer or the swing, because I can't put the buckle through her legs when she's wearing this. Other than that, it's been really nice to have, and I love how it looks too!
HALO Innovation’s SleepSack® wearable blankets have become the standard for hospital nurseries and parents alike. Today, 1,000 hospital nurseries use the HALO SleepSack Swaddle instead of blankets through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Initiative. HALO Innovations also offers free Safe Sleep Practices kits to childbirth educators to help further the cause of SIDS prevention.
Halo Sleepsacks are available for purchase at target.com, amazon.com and babiesrus.com. If your interested in learning more about the Halo Sleepsacks be sure to check them out on Facebook, Twitter @halosleepsack, and Pinterest.

For your reading pleasure, here are some Safe Sleep Tips from Halosleep.com:

ALWAYS
  • Place baby to sleep on his or her back at naptime and at night time.
  • Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snuggly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners).
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
  • Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep.
  • If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established. Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
NEVER
  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface
  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.

I received one HALO wearable blanket to review. All opinions are my own.

  1. Swaddle blankets and sleep blankets are a great innovation. Wish I had them when you and Melissa were babies. And I do love the cuteness of the ladybug sleep blanket...and the cuteness of Natalie.

  2. Jack hates to be swaddled. I still have no idea how he gets his arms out. We have a few sleep sacks but the small all seem to be a little to large for him. I'm hoping he grows into them because we got several as gifts. I hate to see them go to waste.

    1. It's funny...I've heard from so many that their babies hate being swaddled...yet they are supposed to love it! Guess that's not really an across the board thing. Yea the sleep sacks are big - he'll def. grow into them in no time!

  3. We used the halo sleepsacks and swaddles and loved them. I just wish we had used them sooner because I sucked at swaddling and could never get it tight enough but once we started using the velcro ones Hunter slept much better. I was sad when he outgrew them.

    1. Yes, the velcro ones make swaddling sooo much better and more efficient. Chris wanted to buy 12 of them the first night we used them.

  4. That's adorable on Natalie. Bernice hasn't liked swaddling since the first day; she always worked her hands and feet out lol
Luckily she stays warm enough in our bed with us that she just wears a onesie or footie jammies.

    1. Yea it seems quite a few babies don't like swaddling. Oh footie jammies are the absolute best and I bet they are just the cutest on Bernice!

  5. I love the Halo sleepsacks and we use them but James has to be in that and then swaddled in a blanket. He's kicks his legs and the size he's in is really roomy in the legs to allow for growth but he constantly wakes himself up because of it. He hates being swaddled but it's the only way he'll sleep!

    1. yea the legs def. aren't swaddled at all in these, but so far Natalie hasn't seemed to mind that. I really wonder how long I'll keep swaddling her for - she can't get out of these, so as long as she's comfy and enjoys them...I think she'll be swaddled for quite some time!

  6. This looks and sounds awesome! I love the cute ladybug design. I personally am SO ready for this crazy winter to end! The weather we've had in DC this year has made me feel like I am living in Chicago or somewhere else I would never want to be during the winter months. I hope spring gets here fast!

    1. I too hope the groundhog predicts an early spring. It's easy for me to say this winter doesnt bother me because i havent had to be anywhere or commute in it! If i was still commuting to the city everyday...omg...i would have been miserable!

  7. Kennedy hated to be swaddled but she loved the Halo sleep sacks! Just so long as her arms were free she was good to go! We used them until she was a year old.

    1. i keep wondering how long we should swaddle her- she sleeps well swaddled, but she naps fine not swaddled and i dont know how neccesary it is anymore? I also dont want her to onnnly ever fall asleep swaddled, but i don't think that will really be an issue. Im scared to try not swaddling her cause i feel like we've finally just gotten into a sleep routine!
