Push Presents

I have mixed feelings over the whole "push present" idea.
From Wikipedia.org:
A push present (also known as a push gift, baby mama gift or baby bauble) is a present a father gives to the mother to mark the occasion of her giving birth to their child. In practice the present may be given before or after the birth, or even in the delivery room. The giving of push presents has supposedly grown in the United States in recent years.[1] A push gift is any type of present loved ones give to a woman who has recently given birth to a child.[2] The name push gift although indicative of a vaginal delivery does not exclude those women who have given birth through a C-section.
I think the gift of your child is gift enough, and if you are going to go with the gift idea, I certainly don't think it needs to be an excuse to ask for crazy expensive diamonds or something utterly over the top.

However, given that Natalie was born, we celebrated Christmas, as well as my 29th birthday all within 40 days of each other, Chris really wanted to get me something that encompassed all three of these major events and milestones...so who was I to argue?! I didn't make any requests on what I wanted, other than the fact that I wanted something with Natalie's November birthstone: topaz.

The man did a great job and I unwrapped this beautiful necklace on Christmas Eve:
I love that this is Natalie's birthstone, and I also love that we plan to give this to her on her 16th birthday. That is...if I'm willing to part with it then!

Though "push present" pretty much is meant for the woman who pushed the baby out, I wanted to have something for Chris at the hospital to welcome him into his new role as a father! I found this personalized Giants Onesie from Sweet Rosy Cheeks on Etsy and ordered a newborn size personalized with our last name right away!

I gave it to him the night Natalie was born, and he couldn't wait to get her home on Sunday to put on her new Jersey for the game! (Too bad the Giants sucked this year)

Did you get/give a push present? What is your thought on them? Yay or nay?

  1. I agree with you about the push present being another excuse to be crazy consumers and overshadowing the miraculous, blessed event of new life. However, I really like the idea of this necklace-given for a trio of occasions-and intended to be passed from mother to daughter in 16 years. That is very cool. Superb job, Chris!

  3. I'm not really into the whole push present thing. I think the baby is gift enough after what we went through. That necklace is beautiful! I love that it's her birth stone. So sweet and something you'll definitely treasure!

    1. Thanks so much! I tend to agree with you about the push present - the fact that Natalie's birth fell so close to Christmas and my birthday made it all get lumped together into one!

  5. What a beautiful necklace! I love the idea that you'll give it to her on her 16th birthday. I think the "push present" idea is fun, although like you said, I don't think it's a reason to have to go all out with something super expensive. That onesie is super cute, too!

  6. Pretty necklace, Chris has good taste!! I also like the idea of passing it down to Natalie. Though I agree, the idea of a push present is kind of ridiculous!!
