Natalie Claire: 4 Months

Name: Natalie Claire

Weight: 12 Pounds 7 oz. - 25th percentile

Height: 23 1/4 inches

Health: Excellent Health! I guess that's what happens when you don't really leave the house :) Growing at the appropriate rate.

Sleep: She's become an excellent sleeper, and this past month was when we really established a nighttime routine that totally works for us! Baby girl takes a 2-3 hour nap "almost" every day. She is ready for bed by 8:00 the latest, and only wakes up once a night for a feeding (usually between 2:30 and 3:30). Sometimes, it takes me a while to get her back down to sleep after the feeding, other times, she goes right back to sleep, so it's a crap-shoot every night. Then she sleeps straight through till 7:00/7:30 most mornings. She is always so so so happy and pleasant in the mornings!

Social: Natalie gets very fascinated by new faces. She will stare at someone making faces and talking to her for hours (well until she's hungry at least, which is still every 2 hours!)
Diet: Exclusively Breast Fed - The Doc says we can start her on rice cereal this month, but I'm so torn about starting it! Everything I read says wait until 6 months - what are other mama's doing?!

Likes: Sitting at the piano, singing, being swaddled

Dislikes: Tummy-Time. I make her do it a couple times a day, but she's just not really a fan of it. She gets tired very easily. She was rolling over a few weeks ago, but now she just flails around when I put her on her stomach and gets frustrated. Gotta keep making her do it a few times a day though!

Milestones: Smiling like crazy, cooing like crazy, grasping at toys, putting everything in her mouth, watching me eat with much more fascination, tracking, following movements, sitting up on her own in the bumbo chair, and holding herself up when I hold her. She's become a real, bonafide person!!

Tomorrow I'll update with some picture highlights from the past month! I have so much to share and have missed my little corner of the blogging world! Hope everyone is still around and doing well!

  2. Isn't it so fun when they really start to become a real little person?? Not that they aren't before but seeing their personality come out more makes it so much more fun. We aren't starting food until 6 months-James doesn't need anything besides what I'm giving him before that and his doctor agrees. We won't be doing rice cereal at all and that's just my personal opinion on that. She's such a beautiful girl and it sounds like she's doing so much! Have you tried tummy time on the boppy or something else that props her up? James tolerated it much better when he could look around at things.

    1. Yea i prop her up and position her arms and use pillows, but she's not very happy ever on her tummy. But she did roll over a few times today so she's figuring things out!!

It seems sooo many pediatricians have differing views on when to start solids, it drives me crazy! I think, i'm going to compromise and wait until 5 months and IF she's showing interest in my food or reaching for it.

  3. We started giving Hunter some rice cereal at 4 months, he didn't care for it too much. Then slowly introduced other solids after that. He had such a big appetite that I thought it would help take some of the stress off of me and BFing/pumping. He loved it and did great starting that early.

    1. Im thinking of compromising and starting at 5 months. Or at least until she starts showing signs of interest in my food. Right now she looks at it, but doesnt quote get it yet.

  7. Whoa 4 months!!! Beautiful lil girl!! <3 I didn't start cereal until 5 1/2 months...then started more food at 6 months..it was very scary and I was always so nervous in the beginning...but it is also exciting to see your baby react to new food.

    1. Yea, I mean I certainly can't WAIT to see how she'll take food and it certainly is an exciting milestone. I kind of want to wait now until 5 months, but Chris is really excited to try her with rice cereal on Saturday, so maybe we'll give it a try.

  8. When she smiles now it's a "real" smile not just her lips turned up. She smiles with her whole face and her eyes and she is so focused on you. I love all the pictures. <3

  10. We waited until six months old to feed solids. By then our babies would mimic us when we ate, and they could hold food up to their own mouth by themselves. Plus, ours also had at least one tooth by then, so that helped to knaw on some foods.
