Foot Injury

So far this school year, Natalie has missed 3 or 4 days due to a fever, and a week due to vacation (ok, that one's on me), and now two days due to a foot injury. A few Saturdays ago, Natalie was jumping off the little kid's picnic table we have in the family room (something she does countless times, every day) and landed funny on her foot. She refused to walk on it for the next 2 1/2 days.

We took her to urgent care the next day. They did an x-ray - she loved it, she thought it was cool she got to wear a cape (the heavy lead garment you have to wear during an x-ray)

The day after that we took her to an orthopedist. She was charming and sweet there. He couldn't immediately tell what was wrong with her foot, but he finally pushed on the top of it and she winced and cried out. He believed she had a slight fracture in her metatarsal (the top of her foot) and predicted that by the end of the week, it would heal, she'd forget that it was injured, and just start walking on it.

That's sort of exactly what happened the next day when she went to school to get her school pictures taken (I kept her out of school, but had Chris take her just to get her pictures taken, so she wouldn't miss out on the class photo) He got to the classroom and she (limped) but walked all around with no problem.

Once they got back home, she was crawling again...but we insisted that she would go to school the next day. Over the next few days she walked more and more on it - just like the doctor had said, it was kind of like she had forgotten about the injury and she was really back to normal by the weekend.

I was very scared by her second day of not walking - I was thinking how will she trick or treat? How will she do her dance class? Swim lessons? etc. we were very lucky that it was only a minor injury.
