Setting up Registries

I've learned quite a bit about the registering process over the past few months. One of the perks of starting up registries at baby stores is the welcome gift bag they give you for starting a registry with them! Both Babies R' Us and Buy Buy Baby offer gift bags filled with free samples, coupons, magazines, and booklets to help you get started on your registry.

Though I have decided to use Buy Buy Baby as my primary registry, I set up registries at both places just to scope both places out.

Buy Buy Baby
Coupons: Take all (non-expired) Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons. I've noticed that their prices are a bit higher than Babies R' Us, but usually with a 20% coupon, it ends up coming out the same or cheaper than Babies R' Us. I also read that they will price match with any competitor including amazon, which often has cheaper prices!! I have not tried this out first-hand to see if they do, but will be looking into this.
Completion Program: "As a thank you for registering at buybuy BABY, we're pleased to offer you 2 opportunities to save on any items remaining on your registry." This discount is good for 3 months and from what I can gather, it is usually a 10% discount. I think this is only good on a one time purchase? Can anyone confirm this?
Friends Referral Program: Once you've registered at buybuy BABY, for each friend you refer who also registers at buybuy BABY, we'll send you a Referral Award valid for $25 off any purchase of $100 or more at any buybuy BABY store. Hey mom's to be out there!! If you plan to start a registry, remember to give my name, help a sister out! Email me for my full info if you need it: littlemomentsbigmoments@gmail.com

Goody Bag: Check out my loot from Buy Buy Baby!

Babies R' Us
Coupons: Don't really have store coupons, but their prices are generally lower than Buy Buy Baby anyway but NOT if you use a coupon for Buy Buy Baby.
Completion Program: I believe this is also 15% off of any items on your registry! However, I think this may be only use for a one time purchase - which seems crazy to me, but I can't find anything that says otherwise! Can anyone confirm this for me?
VIB: and "R" rewards program: You can earn points as people buy things off your registry, which seems like a cool plan.

Goody Bag: The loot from Babies R' Us was a bit different (not as many samples) as Buy Buy Baby

MyRegistry.com
I created an account with myregistry.com as my "For Funsies" registry. This allows me to register for fun items from Etsy or other specialty item stores. It's mostly items that I would love to have, but wouldn't necessarily be able to justify buying myself. I imagine that mostly the "youngin's" who are invited to my shower will be able to figure this registry out better than the older crowd (You have to manually go to the account and say "I bought this item" if you buy it...otherwise, it doesn't get recorded as purchased) Overall, I like the idea of MyRegistry.com, I just hope that it actually a) works the way it's supposed to and b) people aren't too confused by it and actually use it.

My registries are still very much a work in progress, but they are getting there. I still have to figure out: crib, glider, high-chair, bedding, and other miscellaneous items!!

What other places have/will you register at? What items are you most excited about getting from your registry? I will be sharing some of my favorites next week!

  1. I believe I used MyRegistry.com in the past and really liked it. I swear I placed an order through them and had it delivered right to the house but maybe I'm dreaming. Your information is very helpful.

  2. We registered at Babies R Us only. I would have loved to register at Buy Buy Baby but the closest one to us is an hour away and I'm not even sure if there's one near our family. We registered for about half of what they recommended. I'm not sure what I'm most excited about getting! Every little thing on there makes me excited :)

    1. Yea, I forget that Buy, Buy Baby isn't found everywhere, so Babies R Us is def. the way to go. I am obsesssssed with my registry. It's like a finely tuned shopping list of everything I could hope to have and more!

  3. I registered at Buy Buy Baby and I like their free standard shipping option but didn't know about the coupns. That is awesome!
I loved their goodie bag. I also registered at Pottery Barn kids. I love their organic sheet line and their mobiles are my favorite. I picked a lot of gray goodies.

    1. Oh yes, DEF. use the BB&B coupons anytime you shop there! I liked the goodie bag too, lots of fun stuff. I hear Pottery Barn Kids is great...I'll check them out and maybe I'll add some of their stuff to myregistry.com for my "for fun" registry!

  4. There's no Buy Buy Baby anywhere near us, and Babies R Us was too expensive. We went with Amazon and Target, and loved them!

    1. Yea - you told me about amazon's registry before and sometimes I wonder if I should have used them over myregistry.com - they have a good rewards program or something right? or a diapers program? what is their special thing?

    1. YES, def. use BBB coupons every time you go there! Their prices generally come out cheaper than Babies R Us if you use them

  7. How cool that they give you gift bags! I've never heard of Buy Buy Baby, but it looks like they gave you some neat stuff.

    1. Buy Buy Baby is great - affiliated with Bed, Bath and Beyond and their store is set up very similarly, just alllll baby. I like them a little bit better, but if one isn't near you, then Babies R us is def. the way to go!

  8. I registered at BRU and Target but now I do most of my shopping at Target because it's cheaper than BRU. I get coupons in the mail for BRU but they seem to exclude almost everything in the store.

    1. Yea - once baby arrives and "hopefully" most of my items are purchased and complete, I will prob. try to do most of my baby shopping at Target, because I know they do have great prices. I've heard that many times that BRU has a ton of exclusions - how annoying!

  9. OMG registering stressed me out majorly!! We registered at Babies R Us, Target and Walmart. I did the entire thing online, because walking into Babies R Us overwhelms me. I also have a MyRegistry list, but most everything on it isn't necessary anymore, because, like usual, I changed my mind ;)

    1. I've been doing my entire registering online as well for the same reason. The only reason I've walked into the stores was to push some strollers that i was interested in first hand and to collect my goodie bags!

  10. I didn't like much of BUY BUY baby items so we didn't register there...you can never go wrong with registering at Target...:-)

  11. I just want to let people know that if there is no buybuyBABY near you, you can register online and email them to request a goody bag in the mail. Mine is scheduled to arrive today through fedex!
