Bumpdate: 16 Weeks
How Far Along: 16 Weeks!
Baby is the size of: Avocado (I LOVE guacamole!)
Total weight gain: 6 pounds. Ok, this might seem like a HUGE jump from last week, but let me explain: I was counting from my "pre-pregnancy" weight, but I actually lost 2 pounds in my first month, and so I really should be counting from that lower weight since that is, essentially, weight gained. SO, in actuality in the last 8 weeks, I've gained 6 pounds.
Sleep: Pretty good this week
Best Moment of the week: Walking in to my boss listening to an NPR special on "how to accomodate pregnant women in the work-place." He then explained to me that he's never had a pregnant employee before, and he's nervous because he wants to do the right thing and doesn't know what he's doing. Me and you both boss, me and you both. It was really sweet and touching to see that and to know that he's willing to work with me and make sure that I have a comfortable pre and post-pregnancy work life.
Worst Moment of the week: I'm someone who always likes to know what I'm going to eat for the day at the beginning of each day or even sometimes at the beginning of the week. I typically plan out my meals, I have everything set, etc. etc. But it's so hard to plan and schedule things with such an erratic eating schedule. This past week, I hardly had an appetite. I would eat salad for lunch each day (amazing and filling: kale with cannelini beans, tabouli, carrots, onions, feta, walnut oil and lemon juice...my mouth is watering as I type this) but then I seriously would be full for the rest of the day. I was not hungry for dinner at ALL last week. I only would finally force myself to eat something at 9:30pm before bed because I knew I shouldn't go 18 hours without eating anything.
Also: Losing my balance and falling off a chair at a wedding. It wasn't pregnancy related but of course, everyone was completely panicked when it happened because I'm pregnant. Then, we all laughed about it...cause it was pretty funny...and hugely embarrassing!
Miss Anything: WINE. Being at our friend's wedding this weekend at a vineyard where they had wine tastings, featuring one of my favorite wines EVER: the Duck Walk Boysenberry dessert wine....was a bit of a bummer. At least I got to have the dark chocolate that they serve with it ;)
Food Cravings: The Panini my friend Kerry made me for lunch on Saturday was pretty much the most satisfying sandwich I've had in a long time. Maybe it's because it was prepared for me, maybe it was the company....but I'm thinking of calling her up and asking her to make me one again for lunch/dinner in the near future because I've been craving another one of those paninis since Saturday.
Anything make you queasy or sick: Nope!
Have you started to show? YES. I feel there was definitely a change this week. Others noticed it too. When I walked into work yesterday (Monday), my coworker even thought he noticed a difference from Friday!
Gender: ??
Symptoms: It feels like there are rocks in my stomach. Had some weird pain on Saturday night, possibly as a result of dancing or you know...falling off a chair. I feel like a 90 year old woman when I wake up in the morning, and my legs (particularly my left calf muscle) have been cramping.
Workouts: Prenatal Yoga! I LOVED my prenatal yoga class at Bonda Yoga in Great Neck last week. I plan on attending this class every Tuesday I can during the remainder of the pregnancy. I had a bit of an embarrassing moment when I told the class that I was "4 weeks pregnant" instead of "4 months" when I introduced myself. It finally dawned on me what I said, so I corrected myself once we went around the room and everyone was like "Ohhhhh, we were wondering...4 weeks is so early!"
Mood: Good. Got emotional at the wedding during the parent dances and slideshow...but again, that's not anything out of the ordinary for me.
Looking Forward to: Feeling the baby kick! It could happen as early as 18 weeks, so very close!
Maternity Clothes: Got some GREAT dresses from my friend Kerry this weekend, pretty much plan on wearing skirts and dresses exclusively for the next 5 months.
Reading: The Art of Racing in the Rain (SOOOO GOOD!)
Milestones: The baby has started to develop toe-nails, and its heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood a day.....this actually makes me queasy to think about, but I know, I know it's "neat!"

LOVE the story about your boss listening to NPR and how nervous he is. That is just too cute! I'm so glad you are having such a good pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteI know, it def. was cute!! I'm really realizing how lucky I am to be working here.
DeleteThat is awesome that your boss is caring about how to treat you now that you're pregnant! Very cool and not something you hear often. I'm glad you were OK after your wedding 'incident'-- sounds like something I would do!
ReplyDeleteYea, I've really realized how lucky I am to work for him at this time. He's been so wonderful, and has already said he will consider the possibility of a "work from home" situation when I have the baby.
DeleteYea, my wedding incident was hugely embarrassing..but at least we all got a good laugh out of it, and at least it didn't happen during the speeches!
Youre starting to show!
ReplyDeleteYep! It's kind of exciting!!
DeleteThat's an awesome boss!
ReplyDeleteAnd I remember the calf cramps. They'd assault me in the middle of the night. I think the first time it happened I screamed so loudly my husband thought I was being murdered! A half a banana before bed helped a lot. And drinking plenty of water.
I knooooww I keep meaning to buy bananas when I go shopping, I MUST pick some up this weekend!
DeleteYou have an awesome boss! LOVE that book!! You look great, love that dress on you! Glad you are ok from your tumble, I am clumsier now for sure! I would have miss the wine too but I hope you doubled up on the chocolate!! I have been getting virgin drinks and some are just as good! :)
ReplyDeleteI do have an incredible boss. I've really been realizing how lucky I am to work for him lately.
DeleteThanks! I was so glad that I still had some dresses to wear this weekend. So many of them don't fit me anymore and sadly...not even because of the pregnancy..whoops!
doubling up on chocolate was a must, and it certainly did happen
You look great!! Also, I want to give your boss a huge hug. There should be more men like him in management positions.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you there!
Deletehey pretty mama!

Thanks so much! Congrats to you too! Heading over to check out your blog now!
DeleteGreat pic!
ReplyDeleteSo...you're going to yoga, falling off chairs, and visiting vineyards. You're wayyyy more cooler pregnant than not pregnant ;)
Heart your boss.
Aw, sad about the vineyard wedding! You and your little bump are so cute :)
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! And that was really sweet of your boss! Hope you get that panini again soon, haha!
ReplyDeleteAw! Your boss is SO sweet! How considerate of him! You're looking good! I can definitely see a little bump! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet boss!!! Mine pretty much ignored the fact that I was pregnant for 9 months. :( What is The Art of Racing in the Rain about? I need a new book to read!
ReplyDeleteThat's terrible about your boss...some people just really don't get it, or know what to do I guess.
DeleteThe Art of Racing in the Rain is about a dog and his race car driving owner. It's told entirely from the dog's perspective and he recounts the years he spent and grew up with his owner, whom he loves more than anyone, and how he understands and sees everything that goes on in his owner's life (from a marriage, having a child, and when things turn difficult as well) The dog helps him through the best and worst times of his life. If you're a dog person, you'll love this book - just make sure you have tissues handy!

Looking great, Laura! That is so sweet about your boss. Sorry to hear you fell off a chair, but I'm glad you were OK. I know I am really going to miss drinking wine when I am pregnant.
ReplyDeleteImpressed with your boss!!! Having one that's trying to be accommodating is always a good thing!!!
