Bumpdate: 20 Weeks

How Far Along: 20 Weeks! Half-way through pregnancy!!! (I literally took this photo last night at 10:45pm in our non-air conditioned, sauna-like house - our AC is broken!) I had to be sure to get in a 20 week pic - though I'm technically far closer to 21 weeks in this pic.

Baby is the size of: Banana

Total weight gain:
11 pounds

Sleep:
Sleeping well with nightly pee breaks

Best Moment of the week:
SO MANY!

1. We both saw the baby kick for the first time on Sunday night!! We were laying in bed watching tv and I could really feel kicks. They felt strong, so I lifted up my shirt to see if I could actually see them and all of a sudden I saw a kick by my belly button. I told Chris to come and look - and he could see a little kick too! They were very small and very quick - it was easier for me to pinpoint them because I could see it and feel it at the same time, but if you blinked, you could miss it. It was very cute and exciting!

2. Our 20 week anatomy ultrasound!! First of all, everything went fine at the appointment. The technician and the doctor could not see anything to immediately be concerned with. This appointment was actually at the hospital where I will be delivering, and it was my first time ever at this hospital, so it was totally eye opening to see exactly the steps we'll be taking and where we'll be going the day I go into labor. (AH!) The baby was not in the position that technician wanted it to be in so they both had a bit of trouble getting the right angle to look at the heart. They kept pushing on my stomach a lot to try and get the baby to move and had me lay on my side for awhile to see if baby would turn around. The doctor finally was able to get the pictures she needed, even though baby was being a bit uncooperative...sigh, difficult already ;)

I was mesmerized the entire time we were there. The ultrasound lasted at least 45 minutes and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. We could see hands, fingers, feet, toes, heart, head, everything (buuut I still couldn't see or tell if it was a boy or a girl at ALL) Chris kept telling me he definitely saw a little wee-wee, but he was just joking with me, he couldn't tell either.

3. On Friday after our appointment, we had a follow-up with our OB who went over everything they saw from the ultrasound. Everything was perfect. Our baby weights 12 ounces and is in the 55th percentile.

Worst Moment of the week:
Yesterday I had a swollen and painful vein in my left ring finger. The vein was really popping out, and sore to the touch. I googled what it could be and of course saw everything from "It's nothing" to "GO TO THE HOSPITAL NOW IT'S A BLOOD CLOT!" I know blood clots can be common in pregnant woman, so I thought maybe this was something Don't you just love self-diagnosis through the internet? I called my mother-in-law, who is a nurse, and she said that it shouldn't be anything serious but to call my OB just to make sure. I called my doctor and spoke to a nurse who said she's never heard of a swollen vein in the finger as anything to be worried about in a pregnant woman, to ice it, and if it lasts longer than a day, to call my physician. It was much better by night-time.

Miss Anything:
Sleeping through the night.

Food Cravings:
Cheeeese

Anything make you queasy or sick:
Nope!

Have you started to show?
ummmmm...what do you think?

Gender: Team Green - I'm still convinced it's a boy.

Symptoms:
Feeling tons of movement now! Everything from little kicks to flutters and movement. There is really not a single moment of any day that passes that I am not fully aware and cognizant that I am pregnant. It is every-present.

I'm getting side stickers really easily in my whole lower part of abdomen, so I can't walk very fast.

Workouts:
Yes! I didn't make it to yoga this week but I finally did two days of Tracy Anderson's The Pregnancy Project DVD's.

Mood:
I maaay have had two "emotional outbursts" this weekend. I still say they were justifiable. Chris may say otherwise...

Looking Forward to:
Deciding on a stroller and getting our guest room cleaned out this weekend, so we can start really planning out the nursery!

Maternity Clothes:
Full fledge maternity wear now. Loving my new Maternity Demi Panel Black Trousers from Old Navy. They are EXACTLY what I wanted!

Stretchmarks?: Yes :( Using the cocoa butter, but not sure if it's helping.

Rings on or off?
For the most part...still on, but on those really hot and humid days, it can be touch and go. It was NOT on yesterday as is evident in the below picture.

This week I: Did some more stroller shopping and research, am asking ALL people I know with a baby for their opinions on strollers and I am seriously getting suggestions that are SO DIFFERING! I thought asking people would help, but it's only made me more confused. Picking a stroller has been so much harder than I thought it would be.

  1. Oh your AC is out? That sounds disgusting! I hope y'all can get it fixed soon! Love that you got to see the kick-- what a special memory you'll have! :)

    1. It is sooo unbearable. Figured our AC would break now - in the middle of a heat wave, in the middle of my pregnancy! Isn't that always the way these things work? We have a new AC that should be arriving tomorrow...it can't come soon enough!

Seeing the kick was soooo neat :)

  2. How exciting for both of you that you were able to see Little Italy kicking!!! Reading that actually made me a bit teary. I feel for you with this heat. I was about as far along as you with no AC. It's not fun but milk it for all it's worth! Sit with your feet up as often as possible and ask "Honey" to refill your glass with water frequently. ;-)

  3. I can't believe you are half way through already! And I am sorry about your AC. I feel your pain, we don't even have AC in our house. I was at Walgreens the other day and the lady at the makeup counter was telling me about this oil stuff that they sell that they originally marketed for stretch marks but now found that it helps cover acne scars, but she said it works really well. You might try something like that, because I have heard that the cocoa butter doesn't work for the stretch marks either. It's called Bio-Oil.

    1. Sheesh, I can't believe it either.

Luckily, we have a replacement AC coming on Wednesday - can't wait! I'm going to check out bio-oil, thanks for letting me know about it!

  4. You look so cute! Yay for being halfway done! Seeing those kicks from the outside is the neatest thing isn't it? Once my husband could feel and both of us see the kicks it made this pregnancy so much more real. I've heard of Bio-Oil is good for stretch marks. I've had stretch marks from high school when I lost a bunch of weight and I figure I'll get them with this pregnancy. I'm not worried about it and if I'm going to get them, I'm going to get them!

    1. Yes, it was so neat/reassuring/REAL to see the kicks! Someone else just recommended bio-oil as well, I'll have to check it out.

I agree - I mean, I'd prefer not to have them of course, but I"m not really freaking out over having stretch marks..I know it happens, so whatev.

  8. You look great! Yes, you're definitely starting to show! :) I'm glad your anatomy scan went well! Isn't that such great news to hear? That's all you could really ask for... a healthy baby! That's scary about the vein in your finger, but glad it's nothing serious. I was feeling weird about how the inside of my belly button felt! lol Dr. of course said nothing to worry about.

Oh-- and you know I had an instinct I was having a girl and I turned out to be right. I had a couple dreams and just felt like she was a girl. I wonder if that means you're pregnant with a boy! We'll see! :)

  9. You look great! I love that pic with your hands on your belly! I totally feel for your broken AC. Not a good situation. I love the ultrasounds. Mine was a stinker, too. We had to go back to get pictures of her heart bc she wouldn't stop moving! So glad you got yours!

    1. Oh Man...I was worried they were going to have us do the same thing, but luckily they got everything they needed. Thought I guess an additional chance at seeing the baby wouldn't be the worst thing!
