Bumpdate: 23 Weeks
How Far Along: 23 Weeks!
Baby is the size of: Large Mango
Total weight gain: 15.8 pounds
Sleep: Actually went a few nights without having to get up in the middle of the night to pee, which made me wonder if that meant I wasn't drinking enough and was dehydrated?
Best Moment of the week:
*The Ice cream sundae Chris made for me on Wednesday. Picture this: Brownie on the bottom, topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, melted peanut butter, chopped up oreos, and whipped cream. I have the best husband :)
*Couch shopping with Chris on Sunday and all the sales people (and random people in the store) were asking me when I was due. I like that people automatically notice now.
*I'm also offered a seat on the subway 90% of the time. Usually I can get a seat in the morning no problem. My way home is considerably trickier and some days I am offered a seat and some days I'm not. I think it has to do with what I'm wearing that day (i.e. how noticeable is it) and whether or not people are observant or not. There was one guy last week who literally walked over and stood in front of the empty seat to hold it for me until I could get there. I always find that so sweet.
*My handy-dandy Baby Names App was so helpful this week! It suggested names like:
Lo-Ruhamah
Or Chepito and Ommar:
We get a good laugh each morning at these notifications, but I'm hoping that they start to become,..um..realistic soon. Sorry to any of you Lo-ruhamah's, Chepitos, and Ommars out there.
Worst Moment of the week:
*Waking up at 6:15 Monday morning with a horrrrrible charlie horse in my left calf muscle. It was spasming so badly and was so cramped!!! I haven't had that happen since I was training for my half marathons, but I guess in a way, I'm training for some sort of marathon here, so it's fitting. I woke up shouting "ow, ow, ow, ow!!!" Chris asked me what was wrong and I managed to choke out the words "charlie horse." Chris, in his sleepy stupor, immediately started massaging the upper thigh on my OTHER leg in an attempt to help...which it did not...but he gets points for trying. (he's currently giving me a foot massage as I type this, so he's made up for it!) My BabyCenter app dedicated an entire day's notification to "leg cramps" this week so I'm right on target with that, and this is certainly normal.
*Starting my Monday Morning off by reading this article: Pregnant woman killed by falling tree in NYC park. I know that park, it's very close to my house.
*Trying on clothes for my friend's bachelorette party this weekend in Atlantic City. I literally went through everything in my closet on Sunday to start preparation for packing and it was actually sadly comical what I couldn't fit into. Even my designated "fat shirt" wouldn't zip up the side. I was like "THIS IS MY FAT SHIRT!! I thought I'd at least have this as a back-up!!" LOL, I really was just laughing along with everything I tried on, and I realize that this is normal but I am amazed at how my clothes really just aren't fitting me anymore.
Miss Anything: Not really
Food Cravings: Chris made Kraft Mac and Cheese on Sunday and it was the most delicious and satisfying thing - I mean - Kraft Mac and Cheese always hits the spot, but this was especially satisfying to me.
Anything make you queasy or sick: Nope
Have you started to show? Yes
Gender: Team Green :) I read last week that bad acne can be a sign that you're having a boy - so one more reason to think it's a boy!
Symptoms:
*Continual burning sensation underneath my bosom - I think this is skin stretching. It's really just the skin that burns, not anything internally.
*Runny and Congested nose - blood in tissue when I blow my nose, which was dry skin from blowing my nose and from running our AC at night. I usually have to blow my nose after eating.
*I noticed my heartburn has disappeared or at least significantly decreased.
*Tight calf muscles - see: Charlie Horse experience under "worst moments"
*General whale-ness
Workouts: Best yoga session YET. Not sure what it was - maybe I am more comfortable and in the zone when I get there now, maybe because it was a smaller class than usual, but I had a fantastic yoga session last Tuesday! I also did some arms and hit a two month record of 14,070 (or about 6 miles) and then an All-time record of 16,123 (or 6.6 miles) walking on both Tuesday and Monday! Did some youtube yoga on the weekend and went for a 2 mile walk with Zoey and Chris on Saturday.
Mood: Very good! I'm really very happy and excited 99.9% of the time.
Looking Forward to: My friend's bachelorette party in Atlantic City this weekend!
Maternity Clothes: Chris declared last week that he "Liked my maternity style" so I think that's good :)
Stretchmarks? Yes, but I finally bought BioOil at the recommendation of many of you!
Rings on or off? Engagement ring off, wedding band on
Bellybutton In or out? In...but it's def. losing room and looking funny!
This week I:
*Booked the babymoon to Miami!
*Emailed a few placenta encapsulation people just to inquire about it (I know this can be rather controversial...anyone else even consider/considering this?)
*Decided on a Mattress for the Crib (yea...that took a few days, lots of research, and a 19 page "Mattress Matters" pdf put out by Clean Healthy New York. More on this later)
*I THINK I've decided on a newborn photographer
Reading: The Guidebook to Childbirth by Ina May
Milestones: The baby's "cochlea - the inner ear mechanism that houses all components of hearing is fully formed." The baby can hear everything I hear - but muffled. The baby weighs a little over a pound and its weight should double in the next 4 weeks!
Just like how I feel MY weight has been doing! For some more week by week comparing:

Wow! You really bumped since I saw you July 4th. Looking good Mama! Now remember during your Babymoon there is to be no Herky Jerky dancing! Omar is a good name as in Omar Shariff---such a handsome actor.
ReplyDeletewell you also saw me two weeks ago..sooo do you mean since then? haha. NO HERKY JERKY!! GOT it!
DeleteYou look great! Those leg cramps are the WORST. I was having them almost every night until my doctor told me to start taking calcium supplements. (Citra Cal) It's really helped!
ReplyDeleteoh good to know, thanks!! If these continue I'll ask my doctor about the same thing!
DeleteLOL! Those names crack me up!!
ReplyDeleteLOL I know! I can't tell if the app is trying to be funny to get you to talk about the app and get the conversation going..or actually serious.
DeleteI have wondered the SAME thing when I haven't woken up to pee in the night! It freaks me out! I don't know why you don't love those names! HA!! I have just started out baby mattress search. Ah yi yi
ReplyDeleteOh! I did a ton of mattress research last week and plan on doing a post next week about it.
DeleteThis was a helpful article: http://www.cleanhealthyny.org/MattressMattersReport-Jan2012.pdf
I ended up registering for a pretty expensive mattress and mattress pad after reading it - hoping someone will buy it for us - If you think about it - the baby is spending up to 12 or more hours a day on this thing and breathing in whatever it's made of, so it kind of scared me.
You look great! And sorry about the charlie horse. Those are the worst! I am just curious, because I have been hearing a lot about this, but have you guys considered donating your umbilical cord blood?
ReplyDeleteGreat question and I'll be doing a post on that in the near future. I have to look into it more both on the donating and the banking for personal use fronts: Banking is a bit of an expense - but from what I can gather, it seems to be a worthwhile expense, so I'm leaning toward cord blood banking right now. I don't hear too many people talk about it though, so I am curious to see how many people are donating, verses banking, vs. not doing it at all. You've inspired me to get started on my post!
DeleteYou've really "popped"! I know after I hit 20 weeks that's when my belly really started to grow. I never considered the placenta thing, it's a bit too "hippy" for me. haha.
ReplyDeleteLOL I'll admit it is a bit "hippy"..but this is one place where I'm a little bit torn and see both sides of the argument - not sure what I want to do.
DeleteI agree with the other ladies that you look great, Laura! I get Charlie Horses sometimes and hate them. The best thing I do to help is to put my leg over the side of the bed and straighten it to stop the spasms.
ReplyDeleteYea..I tried to stretch and straighten as much as I could without screaming out in pain..ugh it was horrible!
DeleteOh my. The baby names!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI literally LAUGHED OUT LOUD to myself last night when I tried to zip up a dress and the zipper did not even budge ONE BIT. Hahaha!
You're looking great :-)
Haha at least we have a sense of humor about it! Thanks :)
DeleteHi Laura, not sure if I mentioned yet that I love your new blog design...really nice. Also thanks for stopping by my blog. I did reply there but I will here just in case...I am actually 23 weeks as of today and I am due December 3rd with a little girl. It will be so nice to follow along as we are due just over a week away from each other.
ReplyDeleteAs for your 23 week update...you look great :) Love the three photos of you to show how your baby bump grew...so cute. The ice cream Sunday your husband made for you sound delicious!!! Under your symptoms the burning feeling...mine has passed for now but I had the exact same thing, as well as I still get occasionally feeling of my skin stretching all over. I have never had a charlie horse. I hear how painful those can be, so hopefully it goes away and does not come back.
Looking forward to following along with your updates.
So awesome we are due to close together! Congrats, so exciting you're having a little girl. I thought the burning sensation was weird and strange, so it's comforting to know someone else experienced that feeling too. Oh I hope for your sake you don't get any charlie horse's ever!!
DeleteLooking forward to following along with you as well!
I love Chepito ;)
ReplyDeleteI have had acne since day one, not horrible, but more than usual, and I'm having a girl...just sayin' ;)
You look great!

Hmm well that does make things interesting! Maybe I am having a girl! Haha, thanks! Can't wait to head over to your blog!
DeleteI love these bump dates !
ReplyDeleteAnd that sundae sounds AMAZING !!
Oh my goodness it WAS!!
DeleteChepito? That is so funny! Haha! It reminds me of Cheetos.
ReplyDeleteYou look great - getting so close!
Haha well I DO love Cheetos so maybe that would be a good baby name for us!
DeleteHi! I just found your blog and we're due 2 weeks apart :) I'm having a girl, but I think it's fun that you're going to be surprised!

So great to meet someone else that's due so close to me! Can't wait to follow along as we count down together!
DeleteI'm not even preggers and I want to inhale that ice cream sundae. I did a babymoon with my first pregnancy and it was awesome. I wish we had time for a babymoon the second time around.
ReplyDeleteyea, I had this "now or never" feel when booking it..I just knew we'd regret it if we didn't go somewhere. Where did you go on your babymoon with your first pregnancy?
DeleteI love your bump!!!! And we are literally twins (I woke up about a week ago with a Charlie horse. SOOO painful!) jealous of your baby moon to Miami (can you pack me with you?) and I TOTALLY know what you mean about your "back up fat clothes" no longer fit... I hate that feeling :( :(
ReplyDeleteOh man, the Charlie Horse was the worst! I'd love to pack you in my suitcase but I don't know if you'll fit among all my extra large maternity clothes! LOL
DeleteYou are so cute! All the sweet gestures from strangers was one of the best parts of being pregnant! And I really Chepito has a ring to it. :)
ReplyDeleteYea, I kind like the whole "feeling pampered" and receiving special treatment thing. Yea..Ya know..Chepito is really growing on me! ;)
DeleteThat sundae sounds AMAZING!!!! Oh, and watch out for falling trees... seriously. That's scary!
